This book explores 'young adult' fictions - stories about being young, staying young and sometimes never wanting to grow up. Looking at controversial novels by Francesca Lia Block, at sex and 'race' in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and at the online world of fans and censors, Chris Richards argues that attempts to classify and regulate what counts as 'young adult' have failed, and shows how youth - as intense, exciting and tormented - draws audiences unconstrained by age. Throughout the book, the narratives of life as lived by the young emerge as the stuff of the 'self' - made and remade in reading, watching and listening. Fascinating and accessible, "Forever Young" will be of particular interest to students and teachers concerned with contemporary popular culture in cultural, media, literature and education studies courses.

This book represents a psychobiographical story of John F. Kennedy, Jr. In reality, psychobiography is psychological biography—the intensive psychological study of an individual of historic significance within a sociocultural-historical context. It covers JFK Jr.’s search for identity and purpose, and the depths and vibrancy of his personality. The author approaches the life of JFK, Jr. as a psychologist and psychobiographer with the goal of understanding the workings of John’s mind; his inner feelings, fears, hopes, and desires perhaps not visible on the surface. Presented in four parts, Part One explores the death and legacy of John F. Kennedy, Jr. in a psychological and social context. His life and place in history is introduced, and the conditions around his death are deconstructed and examined. Psychological theories used to frame and understand Johns’ psychological development are briefly introduced, and his ethnic and religious influences are discussed. Part Two tells the story of John F. Kennedy, Jr.’s life in a somewhat chronological order. Important events and relationships in John’s life are discussed with respect to early childhood, early schooling, high school and college years, law school study, and his work as an Assistant District Attorney for Manhattan, including his co-founding of George magazine and his life with Carolyn Bessette. Part Three speculates on the future of John’s professional career and his marriage had the couple lived a full life. Emerging in this part is a strong impression that John was destined for a life in politics and that he would have succeeded in this quest. John’s marriage to Caroline Bessette and the possible directions of their partnership is analyzed. Borrowing from quantitative research methods in personality psychology, JFK Jr.’s personality traits on a popular and well-validated measure of personality is assessed. His personality profile is then compared to select U.S. presidents throughout history. Part Four provides additional theoretical and research methods information. The leading theories of personality and psychosocial development first introduced in Part One are expanded. Finally, ethical issues related to John’s psychobiography are explored and discussed. Additionally, the illustrations and tables supplement the text in exemplifying relevant data. This book will be an insightful resource to address unanswered questions about JFK Jr.’s life and potential future had he lived a full life.

Wonder about the world of our great-great-grandchildren? Who will survive? This is the fourth episode of FOREVER YOUNG, a climate fiction/hard science fiction novel in 4 episodes set 200 years from now. Life on earth is headed for extinction and society is divided between the ultra-rich and the rest who suffer the full onslaught of climate change and pollution. Part One explores the costly Age Prevention Programme (APP) and what it means to belong to it...or remain outside – for Alice, a lovely Swiss nurse, for ambitious Lizzie, a talented golf player, the descendant of the mythical Tiger Woods, and for adventurous Jamie, a brilliant reporter for the World and US Post. Part Two, "The Immortality Trip" is the name given to the project to transport a contingent of One Percenters to the nearest liveable exoplanet and settle it. Will Jamie, Lizzie and Alice be able to board that trip? Part Three, “The Hibernation party” introduces the other option opened to One Percenters to survive extinction: take refuge on Antarctica, the last virgin continent. Jamie discovers the dangers of this option when Gary Trude, the head of the Hibernation Party , a despot with Hitler’s dangerous ambitions, threatens him and his friends. Can they escape from Gary Trude? Part Four, “The Longevity Gene” introduces yet another twist in this tormented future world: can a gene make a difference for survival of the human race and why is Gary Trude focused on it? Meanwhile our friends are set to fly to the ‘Forever Planet’, but will they all make it? The novel - classified as both a "hard" science fiction and a climate fiction novel - interweaves several plot lines. The first chronicles the love triangle between Alice, Lizzie, and Jamie. The second covers the only two options left to save humanity, both reserved to One Percenters: one, escape to another pristine planet, a thousand light years away; the other, retreat to Antarctica, the last virgin continent. A ruthless rivalry develops between those who aim to stay on Earth and those bent on escaping to another world. The third follows the murderous attempts of one determined 99 Percenter, Ernie, a retired Blue Beret who is hell-bent on carving a place for himself in the Age Prevention Program. NOTE TO THE READER: This book follows the model of serialized novels, like Hugh Howey's best-selling WOOL , and is published in four separate parts, each self-standing. It is however preferable to read them in order as follows: Part One: Gateway to Forever Part Two: The Immortality Trip Part Three: The Hibernation Party Part Four: The Longevity Gene The omnibus edition, containing all four parts, is also available.

The excessive worship of adolescence and its social empowerment by adult institutions is the deeply rooted cause of a serious cultural malaise. So argues semiotician Marcel Danesi in Forever Young, an unforgiving and controversial look at modern culture's incessant drive to create a 'teen-aging' of adult life. Written for the general reader and based on five year's worth of interviews with over 200 adolescents and their parents, Danesi begins by asserting that one of the early causes of this crystallization of adolescence as an age category can be traced back to theories of psychology at the turn of the twentieth century. Since then, the psychological view of adolescence as a stressful period of adjustment has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. This, in tandem with the devaluation of the family by the media and society at large, has led to a maturity gap - a fissure in family dynamics that is eagerly and ably exploited by the mass media. Unlike many academic digressions into the malaise of modern culture, Forever Young provides concrete answers on how the 'forever young syndrome' can be addressed. One solution is to dispel the myth that experts and professionals are the people best equipped to give advice on raising children. The second is to recognize the value of family, in all its different combinations, as the primary institution of child-rearing. The third is to challenge the pervasive notion that teen culture is a sophisticated endeavour - that, for example, pop music can claim to have produced some of the best musical art in the world, surpassing Mozart or Bach. By laying bare the misguided tenets that have brought about, and continue to promote, a 'forever young' mentality, Marcel Danesi demonstrates that the 'teen-aging' of culture has come about because it is, simply put, good for business. Teen tastes have achieved cultural supremacy because the western economic system requires a conformist and easily manipulated market, and has thus joined forces with the media-entertainment oligarchy to promote a deterministic 'forever young' market.

The Forever Young program is the scientifically based plan that will bring your life back into synch with your genetic identity, restoring your youthful vigor and glow, while at the same time optimizing your health, quality of life, and longevity." --James O'Keefe, MD and Joan O'Keefe, RD In a field plagued by "miracle" diets and sketchy information, The Forever Young Diet and Lifestyle presents a commonsense plan that improves satiety; promotes wholesome, fresh, and easily obtained foods; and reinforces a rational, holistic, mind-body approach to diet and lifestyle. The program is a complete package that can help provide a lifetime of energy and good health. Most of our health problems today result from a mismatch between the world we are designed for and the very different one in which we live. The modern American leading a sedentary lifestyle of automobiles, couches, televisions, computers, and junk food is like a fish out of water. Our genes have changed minimally over the past few thousand years, yet our diets and lifestyles have become progressively more divergent from those of our ancient ancestors. The Forever Young Diet and Lifestyle outlines the path back to our natural needs and rhythms. Firmly grounded in the medically proven Hunter-Gatherer diet, the plan easily promotes weight loss, vastly improves energy levels, enhances sleep and concentration, and restores the natural youthful glow we should have at any age. Cardiologist James O'Keefe and his wife, Joan, a registered dietitian, provide a down-to-earth, sensible program that's both satisfying and easy to follow.

An intimate portrait of John F. Kennedy, Jr., from his closest friend with 16 pages of color photos From the iconic image of a little boy saluting his father’s casket to his tragic death at age thirty- eight, John F. Kennedy, Jr., was never far from the public eye. Now the friend who John was flying to see the night he died reveals the private man behind the public myth. Billy and John shared summers in Hyannisport and formed a bond in the Kennedy compound that lasted well into adulthood. With Forever Young, Noonan offers a unique glimpse into the private life of his boyhood friend—his courtship with Carolyn, his relationship with his mother, Jackie, and his struggle with being the son of a great man he hardly remembered. Affectionate yet candid, Noonan’s deeply personal memoir ultimately emerges as the definitive portrait of the son of Camelot.
