A Structured Programming Approach to Data

Much of current programming practice is basically empirical and ad hoc in approach. Each problem is tackled without relation to those that have gone before; experiences are made and stored as a series of fragments. Now, under the pressure of events, this unsatisfactory state of affairs is coming to an end. Programming is becoming a technology, a theory known as structured programming is developing. The purpose of a theory is to categorise and explain existing practice, thus enabling it to be improved through the development of new and sharper techniques. The resulting experiences have then to be fed back into the theory so that the process of enrichment may continue. This dialectical relationship between theory and practice is essential to a healthy programming technology. The lack of such a relationship in the 1950s and 60s and the accompanying software crisis certainly confirm the converse of this proposition. My aim in writing this book has been to explain the current state of the theory of structured programming, so that it may be used to improve the reader's practice. The book deals with two facets of programming - how to design a program in terms of abstract data structures and how to represent the data structures on real and bounded computers. The separation between program design and data structure representation leads to more reliable and flexible programs.

Algorithms and Data Structures

With numerous practical, real-world algorithms presented in the C programming language, Bowman's Algorithms and Data Structures: An Approach in C is the algorithms text for courses that take a modern approach. For the one- or two-semester undergraduate course in data structures, it instructs students on the science of developing and analyzing algorithms. Bowman focuses on both the theoretical and practical aspects of algorithm development. He discusses problem-solving techniques and introduces the concepts of data abstraction and algorithm efficiency. More importantly, the text does not present algorithms in a shopping-list format. Rather it provides actual insight into the design process itself.

Introduction to Data Structures and Algorithms with C

This is a complete introduction to the critical topic of data structures, written from the object-oriented perspective most students and practitioners are adopting. The book introduces data structures using C++, a language whose classes and object-oriented constructs are specifically designed to efficiently implement data structures. The opening chapters introduce the ideas behind object-oriented programming and C++; once these ideas are explained, the book introduces data structures and algorithms from an O-O point of view. All standard data structures are described, including stacks, queues, sets, linked lists, trees and graphs. Searching and sorting algorithms are also studied. This book is for students and others working with data structures, especially object-oriented developers interested in ways data structures can enhance their effectiveness.

Expert Data Structure with C

The book has three goals- to develop a consistent programming methodology, to develop data structures access techniques and to introduce algorithms. The bulk of the text is developed to make a strong hold on data structures.

Expert Data Structure with C

This book starts with the fundamentals of data structures and finally lead to the muchdetailed discussion on the subject. The very first chapter introduces the readers with elementary concepts of C as type conversions, structures, pointers, dynamic memory management, functions, flow-chart, algorithm and fundamental of data structures. This textbook covers the syllabus of Semester College course on data structures. It provides both a strong theoretical base in data structures and an advanced approach to their representation in C. The text is useful to C professionals and programmers, as well as students of any branch of Engineering of graduate and postgraduate courses. The data structures are presented with in the context of complete working programs that have been tested both on a UNIX system and a personal computer using Turbo-C++, Compiler. The code is developed in a top-down fashion, typically with the low-level data structures implementation following the high-level application code. This approach foster good programming habits and makes subject matter more interesting. The book has three goals- to develop a consistent programming methodology, to develop data structures access techniques and to introduce algorithms. The bulk of the text is developed to make a strong hold on data structures. Programming style and development methodology are introduced and its applications are presented. This has the advantage of allowing the reader to concentrate on the data structures, while illustrating how good practices make programming easier.

Data Structures

The book then covers the non-linear data structures such as trees and graphs. These data structures are very well explained with the help of illustrative diagrams, examples and implementations.

Data Structures

The book has been developed to provide comprehensive and consistent coverage of both the concepts of data structures as well as implementation of these concepts using C programming. The book utilizes a systematic approach wherein each data structure is explained using examples followed by its implementation using a programming language. It begins with the introduction to data types. In this, an overview of various types of data structures is given and asymptotic notations, best case, worst case and average case time complexity is discussed. The book then focuses on the linear data structures such as arrays, stacks, queues and linked lists. In these units each concept is followed by its implementation and logic explanation part. The book then covers the non-linear data structures such as trees and graphs. These data structures are very well explained with the help of illustrative diagrams, examples and implementations. The text book then covers two important topics - hashing and file structures. While explaining the hashing - various hashing methods, and collision handling techniques are explained with necessary illustrations and examples. File structures are demonstrated by implementing sequential, index sequential and random file organization. Finally searching and sorting algorithms, their implementation and time complexities are discussed. The sorting and searching methods are illustrated systematically with the help of examples. The explanation in this book is in a very simple language along with clear and concise form which will help the students to have clear-cut understanding of the subject.

Data Structures and Algorithms in Python

Based on the authors’ market leading data structures books in Java and C++, this book offers a comprehensive, definitive introduction to data structures in Python by authoritative authors. Data Structures and Algorithms in Python is the first authoritative object-oriented book available for Python data structures. Designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to data structures and algorithms, including their design, analysis, and implementation, the text will maintain the same general structure as Data Structures and Algorithms in Java and Data Structures and Algorithms in C++. Begins by discussing Python’s conceptually simple syntax, which allows for a greater focus on concepts. Employs a consistent object-oriented viewpoint throughout the text. Presents each data structure using ADTs and their respective implementations and introduces important design patterns as a means to organize those implementations into classes, methods, and objects. Provides a thorough discussion on the analysis and design of fundamental data structures. Includes many helpful Python code examples, with source code provided on the website. Uses illustrations to present data structures and algorithms, as well as their analysis, in a clear, visual manner. Provides hundreds of exercises that promote creativity, help readers learn how to think like programmers, and reinforce important concepts. Contains many Python-code and pseudo-code fragments, and hundreds of exercises, which are divided into roughly 40% reinforcement exercises, 40% creativity exercises, and 20% programming projects.
