Many Christians lack understanding of faith’s journey, how God’s soldiers are armored, and how to be prepared for spiritual warfare. Little knowledge in this area makes many go into battle unprepared, and they lose fight after fight. God’s soldiers are doing spiritual warfare with natural (fleshly) means, which causes them to be beaten and confused, and (as Job) they sit believing that God has forsaken them. This book is not a repeat of Storms Are Faith’s Workout: Preparing Christians for Spiritual Ambush. It will build upon the truths in that book to help strengthen God’s soldiers to go to battle dressed in the full armor of God. There are no shortcuts to overcoming in this life, and many obstacles must be faced. In the pages of this book, God’s soldiers will gain the understanding of how faith works and the necessity for God’s armor in facing whatever obstacle the devil has put in their path. When the book is finished, God’s soldiers will have confidence in God and in his armor. They will be emboldened to stand firm, confront any obstacle, and overcome it by faith!

This book is a spiritual and clinical guide from a faith perspective. It is designed to encourage anyone enduring cancer treatments and its debilitating side effects—or anyone with a terminal illness—to always maintain their faith in God’s healing powers and know that there is always faith, hope, and love if we simply are patient, look upward, and seek God’s divine guidance. Mrs. Kiser describes her “rollercoaster ride” as she experiences her cancer and radiation therapy. Although she has her world torn inside out and upside down by fear and doubt, she witnesses the healing power and strength that comes from slowing down in life, taking one day at a time, and listening to God as He speaks to us in many different ways to help us cope with our illness and find a road to recovery through a journey of faith. Mrs. Kiser’s background in psychology, counseling, and courses in death and dying can inspire anyone to face the stages of dying as a normal human process and still find courage and victory in living each day to the fullest. Mrs. Kiser is more than qualified to offer this guidance because she is not only an oncology nurse with many years of experience, but she is also a cancer patient herself who shares her own life experiences in the hope of inspiring others to a better and fuller quality of life—despite the odds.

Journeys of Faith: Religion, Spirituality, and Humanistic Psychology is about the intersection of a now hallowed approach to psychotherapy, today referred to as humanistic, or person-centered, counseling, and the broad religious/spiritual world that its first practitioners found themselves engaging, often much to their surprise. What is humanistic psychology? Where did it come from? How did it replace the two storied therapies—Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis and B. F. Skinner’s behaviorism—that had previously dominated counseling. And why and how did the practitioners of humanistic psychology find themselves engaging spiritual and religious questions, which hitherto had been understood by most psychologists as foreign to their field of interest? These are the questions Journeys of Faith: Religion, Spirituality, and Humanistic Psychology addresses. Rising to prominence in America during the post-World War II years, humanistic psychology reached its zenith in the 1950s and 1960s and continued to influence the national conversation—psychologically, spiritually, politically, and culturally—throughout the remaining decades of the 20th century. During those years, it attracted a wide and diverse following, becoming a cultural phenomenon that affected everything from counseling and education to parenting, religion, and business management. Its influence continues to be felt today, though often unrecognized and uncredited. The key players in the humanistic psychology movement—Abraham Maslow, Carl Rogers, Erich Fromm, and Rollo May—hailed from different sociocultural and religious backgrounds and followed dissimilar, though interconnecting, professional paths. While they were confronting the world’s problems through the lens of psychology and psychotherapy, other thinkers were approaching them from different perspectives, though equally humanistic. Among those others, the evolutionary biologist Julian Huxley receives special attention as one with particularly useful insights into the intersection of science and spirituality. “At a time when society is desperate for a sense of centeredness, Dr. Michael Brock produces for us a comprehensive address to just those factors which make life worth living. In Journeys of Faith: Religion, Spirituality, and Humanistic Psychology, he demonstrates humanity’s yearning for the experiential encounter with awe, wonder, and mystery and provides an assessment of the leading systems of psychological analysis in the modern world that offers scholars, practitioners, and students insight into the way forward in these times of anxiety and uncertainty. A more cogent integration of psychology and spirituality is not presently available.” –Dr. John Henry Morgan, Ph.D., Th.D., D.Sc. (London), Psy.D. (FH/Oxford), Research Professor of Clinical Psychopathology (Graduate Theological Foundation/Oklahoma), Harvard University Postdoctoral Visiting Scholar Mike Brock is a counselor in private practice in Dallas and Carl Ransom Rogers Professor of Counseling Psychology at the Graduate Theological Foundation. In addition, he teaches in the pastoral ministry program at the University of Dallas. His academic background includes degrees in philosophy, history, counseling, and psychology.

After we’ve come to faith in Christ, God leaves us in this world for a very clear purpose: his own glory. But how are we to glorify God for the rest of our lives? The Bible reveals that God has laid before every Christian two infinite journeys which we are to travel every day: the internal journey of growth into Christlike maturity, and the external journey of worldwide evangelism and missions. This book is a road map for the internal journey, laying out how we are to grow in four major areas: knowledge, faith, character, and action. In this book, we’ll learn how God grows us in knowledge, faith, character, and action. We’ll also discover that spiritual knowledge constantly feeds our growing faith, faith will transform our character, our transformed character will result in an array of actions more and more glorifying to God, and our actions will feed our spiritual knowledge. This upward spiral will lead us to become more and more like Jesus Christ in holiness. And not only will this book help us understand Christian growth in detail, it will also give us a passion to grow every day for his glory.
This volume is a companion to two other books which also circulated as Lenten series in newspapers: A Journey with the Saints and Jesus' Spiritual Journey—And Ours. They are written in an idiom for the general reading public.

Far more than the biography of a strong man, The Spiritual journey ofjoseph L. Greenstein is a believe-it-or-not adventure of integrity, courage, the human spirit. I read it more than once, then to my children at bedtime.

So many of our fictional heroes, from Tarzan to James Bond, are variations on the superman theme. Here is the true story of a man who realized that myth: Joseph Greenstein, The Mighty Atom. He was a modern-day Samson who could stop bullets and hold back roaring airplanes, a man who rose from the Jewish ghettos of Poland to become the most remarkable strongman of the century. The Spiritual Journey of Joseph L. Greenstein, World's Strongest Man is a fully-documented and illustrated biography that also details the methods Greenstein used to train himself for the impossible. As a vaudeville star, he bit through iron bars, crushed steel spikes in his hands, and held back airplanes tied to his hair. These feats were all the more amazing because he stood only five feet four inches and weighed in at just 145 pounds. But The Mighty Atom had developed his own technique for tapping into the life-force; a technique that encompassed Asian methods of concentration, Jewish mystical writings, and a then-unheard-of vegetarian natural diet. He unlearned the subconscious mechanism that forces us to stop when we think we have reached our physical limits. Each time he broke an iron chain, he revealed the enormous potential of the life-force. That potential exists inside every one of us and, as The Mighty Atom showed, it is within our grasp.
Ive realised that I have also survived thus far just by his grace. This is what this book is all abouthis mercy that has covered me thus far, the same mercy that carried the children of Israel on their journey from Egypt to Canaan.

Christianity is a journey; it is a journey most of us start when God finds us in our sinfulness and delivers us to our righteousness for his names sake (Psalm 23:3). It is a process that we have to be aware of, and we have to be aware of our responsibility at each stage in order to progress to the next stage of our journey. The scriptures tell us of the journey the children of Israel had from their place of slavery, Egypt, where God rescued them with his powerful arm and then journeyed with them in the wilderness to bring them to their Promised Land, Canaan, a land he had promised to their ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. This journey that the Israelites had is quite similar to the journey that we Christians have; the only difference is that they did their journey physically and God was with them physically as well, while ours is a spiritual journey and he is in us as the Holy Spirit, guiding us. The canon has recorded their journeys story for us to learn from and do ours better (1 Corinthians 10:6). Ive noted through the scriptures that it was just through Gods mercy that they made it through to the Promised Land; even though most of them died in the wilderness, those who made it did so only because he was merciful to them. Ive realised that I have also survived thus far just by his grace. This is what this book is all abouthis mercy that has covered me thus far, the same mercy that carried the children of Israel on their journey from Egypt to Canaan.
