"The art of Pauline Rhodes is often temporary and housed outside of the usual gallery setting. This book documents her extraordinary body of work, making it accessible to a wider public, and securing her a central place in art history. Additional essays by ecologist and historian Geoff Park and architectural theorist Sarah Treadwell consider her work in light of their respective disciplines."

Ground Works

"This anthology of Canadian experimental writers evokes the rich and unexpected heritage of current Canadian fiction. It contains groundbreakingly ruptured, side-splittingly excessive, weirdly lucid, and above all, endlessly interesting writing. Contributors include Michael Ondaatje, Leonard Cohen, Graeme Gibson, Christopher Dewdney, George Bowering, and Matt Cohen, as well as innovators such as Ray Smith, J. Michael Yates, Gail Scott, Andreas Schroeder, Audrey Thomas, and Robert Zend."

The Groundwork of the Gospels

"No movement of thought can be understood without some knowledge of the community in which it originated. This applies to the advance of thought, represented by the Gospels, just as much as to any other of the great movements which have permanently affected the the mind of the world. But, since the Gospels have had so great an educative value, and were shaped in a community which had had a unique education, it is particularly necessary to give some consideration to the process by which the mind of that community had been taught and trained"--Introduction.

Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals

[T]he present groundwork is nothing more than the identification and vindication of the supreme principle of morality.' In the Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals (1785), Immanuel Kant makes clear his two central intentions: first, to uncover the principle that underpins morality, and secondly to defend its applicability to human beings. The result is one of the most significant texts in the history of ethics, and a masterpiece of Enlightenment thinking. Kant argues that moral law tells us to act only in ways that others could also act, thereby treating them as ends in themselves and not merely as means. Kant contends that despite apparent threats to our freedom from science, and to ethics from our self-interest, we can nonetheless take ourselves to be free rational agents, who as such have a motivation to act on this moral law, and thus the ability to act as moral beings. One of the most studied works of moral philosophy, this new translation by Robert Stern, Joe Saunders, and Christopher Bennett illuminates this famous text for modern readers.

Groundwork

Groundwork. The parable of the sower—also called the parable of the soil—has helped me enormously in understanding the transformative process.

Groundwork

Transformation captivates a world hungry for change. Transformation looks like hearts cracking open to God’s touch, reconciliation in relationships, and the restoration of broken character. It is powerful to heal both within the church and the community, and our need for it today is great. But transformation like this doesn’t happen casually. Christian leaders are called to lead transformation within themselves and others but often do not understand the fundamental nature of how change really happens in the heart. Like throwing good seed onto poor soil, leaders miss the groundwork needed to produce genuine change. Authors Scott Larson and Daniel L. Tocchini have spent their lives learning how to do this groundwork. Through a combination of storytelling, research, and methods garnered from years of practice, the authors share their experiences of leading transformation within ministry and business. In Groundwork they invite leaders and ministry professionals to learn from both the authors’ mistakes and achievements and to put into practice the knowledge of what works and what impedes true change. Jesus taught that the seeds of God’s transformative power are freely sown; let’s do the groundwork so God’s seeds land on good soil and bear the fruit of hope and healing. Groundwork for a Transpersonal Psychoanalysis

This book explores how a deeper engagement with the theme of spirituality can challenge and stimulate contemporary psychoanalytic discourse. Bringing relational psychoanalysis into conversation with Jungian and transpersonal debates, the text demonstrates the importance of questioning an implicit reliance on secular norms in the field. With reference to recognition theory and shifting conceptions of enactment, Brown shows that the continued evolution of relational thinking necessitates an embrace of the transpersonal and a move away from the secular viewpoint in analytic theory and practice. With an outlook at the intersection of intrapsychic and intersubjective perspectives, Groundwork for a Transpersonal Psychoanalysis will be a valuable resource to analysts looking to incorporate a more pluralistic approach to clinical work.

Groundwork

The three sequences of Groundwork comprise a sophisticated reworking of European myth on the order of Yeats’s The Tower. The first is situated by an archaeological dig in modern-day Tunisia, the second by the Garden of Eden, the third by the waters and islands of Homer’s Odyssey. Together they form a devastating critique of contemporary aesthetics. Few poets today are versed in the archetypes that inform the European tradition, and even fewer can manipulate them with the grace of Amanda Jernigan. With rivers of exquisite prosody and a panoramic intellectual scope, her Groundwork has recharted the poetic landscape – and by doing so, has changed it forever.
