Here is a confession of youth and everything that comes with the realization of being stuck between a corporate war and a vanishing planet, the battle of precedent failures and impending ideas, the struggle for experience and keeping a dream in focus, and the decision of trying to mature, while fighting any kind of change. The debut collection of poetry from Colton Lorenz, I Am A New York City, depicts the complex situation of simply growing up. Lorenz's simple style of free verse illustrates the idea that there are so many mixed experiences, courageous ideas, rotating personalities, and complex influences to one individual that, in essence, we all are our own New York City.

This book is at least a decade overdue. I wonder if some of the damage can ever be repaired at this point. For reasons that will become obvious, I cannot write it in my real name, nor state which uniform I wear, nor which command I serve. I am therefore" I am one" for the purposes of this book..But be assured, I am. I am out there for you, night after night. You see me at crime scenes, grisly accident scenes, fighting with the drunk, drugged and disorderly, writing a ticket and trying to assist decent New Yorkers in need wherever I should find them. I want you to know that I love being a cop in New York. This is my first book, I will intentionally keep it very short as I know I do not read long books, so why should you? I also will NOT put any wars stories in this book nor bore you with details. I have been a cop in New York for more than a decade. I have worked all over and have had many job titles. This book concentrates on the job that uniform cops are doing right now in the Metro New York area- meaning the Big Apple itself and the suburbs that surround it. It is the inner thoughts and fears of the many cops I work with, from many different departments, as well as my own, that make up the content of this book. Simply put- the average law abiding citizen of New York has no clue as to the mind set of the actual cop on duty right now in their midst. "BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID" sums it up best. This book will explain why these cops no longer give a damn and what needs to be done about it.

With no concrete plan, and a little naive, Lisa is traveling to New York. Ostensibly, she just wants to improve her English. But, having reached a turning point in her career, she is secretly longing for a time-out. For nine and a half weeks she will conquer "her city", mostly on foot. Between shopping, culture, and celebrity hunting she will find tons of clichés and experiences, but also some surprises. And, on her way to the various sightseeing spots she will find the opportunity for contemplating her life and her approach towards it. The appeal of the uncertain and the freedom to do whatever she is in the mood for eventually lead to a liberating motto: "Just be yourself!"
