Brit Girls of the Sixties Volume Three Cilla Black Sandie Shaw Lulu

Cilla Black (1943-2015) was the only important British female singer to emerge from the "Mersey Sound" explosion of the early 1960s. The archetypal girl-next-door, despite fame and fortune she never lost touch with her Northern roots, and her sudden death in August 2015 plunged a whole nation into mourning. A veritable lodestar of talent, her speciality was powerhouse Continental ballads, with which she was unrivalled. After her singing career slowed down she went on to become one of the country's most popular television personalities, and will never be replaced in the hearts of the British public. "The Barefoot Princess From Dagenham", Sandie Shaw was one of the decade's most alluring images. She topped the British charts three times and won Eurovision. Lulu was the wee Scottish lassie with the voice which could demolish a skyscraper. Hers was a bigger struggle than most, from Glasgow tenement block to superstardom. She was the only Brit Girl to top the US charts.

True Love Never Dies

"Mac and Pat were both in loveless marriages and unbeknown to each other, were deeply in love. Tragically they kept this hidden for ten long years, before finally revealing their true feelings for one another. They fell deeply in love in every possible way, keeping their love light burning through beautiful poetic love letters, when distance so often forced them apart. Herein lies a beautiful collection of Mac's love letters to his darling Pat, declaring his undying love for the woman who so completed him in every possible way. Despite their new found happiness, their life was not without anguish and turmoil, and after a final cruel twist of fate, their deep felt love for each other would end suddenly as Mac passed away. Their precious legacy lives on today through their three Children, and three Grand Children"

Liz Ian A Sensuous Love Story

Liz and Ian, A Sensuous Love Story Ian Finly, a tall, handsome, middle-aged Scotsman is the very last heir to the Finly Ltd. shipping company and Royal Scott Cruises, Inc. The untimely death of his older brother throws him into total control of the companies, and they soon control him. He has no family of his own and has not visited his home in Scotland for years. He is the technology and security commander of the companies and is just bringing in the wireless usage to the cruise ships as well as taking on all the responsibilities of running the companies. He is consumed by the work and only has time to afford himself a daily work-out on the exercise deck. He is urgently called to the cruise ship sailing the Bahamas as the security officers are sure they have a terrorist onboard, using a computer to activate a sleeper cell. He had never had a problem like this before and is perplexed and shaken when he finds out they think it is a woman. He decides he must get to know her himself and get to the core of this serious threat. Liz O’Riley, an ordinary, middle-aged widow from Lexington, Kentucky, is experiencing a lonely depression after retiring from a busy life as a nurse. Unable to sleep, she watches a segment about cruise ships and decides that’s what she will do, and immediately goes to her computer and buys her ticket, not giving herself a chance to change her mind, remaining in her solitary life. Why couldn’t she meet someone new? Why couldn’t she love a man again? She knew she wanted to live and love, once again, and maybe the safe confines of a cruise ship would be the perfect place to start. She found that one cruise was not enough and signed up week after week. The first night of her last cruise she meets the tall, handsome Ian Finly, and he seems so interested in her. She knows there is danger that she is just using him for companionship, and he is just tracking a terrorist, but a true love twists them together and sends them on the adventure of their lives.

Ken Dodd

This is the first complete biography of the last of the great British comedians. A new generation of fans and comedians, including Johnny Vegas, Victoria Wood and Vic Reeves, are now rediscovering Dodd's unique talents. Dodd has a huge and fiercely loyal fanbase and is still touring the country, performing in packed venues an average of two nights a week with his legendary four-hour sets. 'I do it because that is what I do. I do it because that is what I am,' he said, when asked why he continues with this punishing schedule. Ken Dodd's career has spanned over five decades as he went from singer to actor, and presently, most famously, comedian. He is considered the last, great, music-hall-inspired variety comic, but what drives this man whose career has been tainted by hardship? Dodd still lives in his childhood home of Knotty Ash and has never married, despite having two-long term fiances. In 1989, his strange relationship to money culminated in a trial for tax evasion, and he was also famously stalked by a mystery woman. How did this feather-duster salesman become one of the most loved, though least-lauded, British comedians of all time? Stephen Griffin interviewed friends, colleagues and fellow comedians to get inside the mind of the original Diddyman.

Letters To My Romanian Gray Wolf

The rise of her is the fall of you. The kingdom of this girl is your ring of fire, your raging desire. This girl, this beautiful and gorgeous girl has the power to stop our hearts with one look into her eyes. Those deep dark eyes, within those eyes I can see my beginning and end. I can see her seeing me. This girl, this girl has stopped my heart, frozen in her storm. Her eyes are relentless, relentlessly pulling you into her storm. The storm raging in her is seen trough her eyes. The wind twirling around us all is her moving toward you. The rain falling on us all is your heart melting for her.

Sound Pictures

Her latest release, “I Only Live to Love You” backed with “From Now On,” saw her flailing yet again. Like “What Good Am I?,” her previous single, “I Only Live to Love You” had stalled on the charts, going no higher than the midtwenties.

Sound Pictures

The second book of two, Sound Pictures traces the story of George Martin and the Beatles' incredible artistic trajectory after reaching the creative heights of Rubber Soul. As the bandmates engage in brash experimentation both inside and outside of the studio, creating such masterworks as Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles (The White Album), and Abbey Road, the internal stakes and interpersonal challenges become ever greater. During his post-Beatles years, Martin attempts to discover new vistas of sound recording with a host of acts, including Jeff Beck, America, Cheap Trick, Paul McCartney, and Elton John. Eventually, though, all roads lead Martin back to the Beatles.

Cilla 1943 2015

'IT WAS A PRIVILEGE TO KNOW AND LOVE HER'- Paul McCartney The news that Cilla Black had died in August at the age of seventy-two triggered an outpouring of love and a wave of sadness that spread around the world. Her infectious personality and her common touch made her one of Britain’s best loved entertainers. Known to one generation for a string of number-one hits like Anyone Who Had a Heart and You're My World, and loved by another for hosting the classic ITV show Blind Date, Cilla came a long way from hanging coats in Liverpool's Cavern Club for five bob an hour. In Cilla: 1943 2015, Douglas Thompson traces her rise to the top, her heart-warming marriage to Bobby Willis and the profound effect his death had on her. This affectionate biography is a fitting tribute to our Cilla, a huge talent who became a national treasure.

Women in Jamaican Music

As the ubiquitous Jamaican musician Bob Marley once famously sang, "half the story has never been told." This rings particularly true for the little-known women in Jamaican music who comprise significantly less than half of the Caribbean nation's musical landscape. This book covers the female contribution to Jamaican music and its subgenres through dozens of interviews with vocalists, instrumentalists, bandleaders, producers, deejays and supporters of the arts. Relegated to marginalized spaces, these pioneering women fought for their claim to the spotlight amid oppressive conditions to help create and shape Jamaica's musical heritage.
