Johnny Be Good the true-life story of a small time celebrity whose life went horribly wrong due to drink and drugs. Actor, Johnny Kinch, tells his story in a bare-all book about how he became an alcoholic, was dealing drugs, and consumed vast amounts of cocaine before his dramatic encounter with the supernatural turned his life around. Oscar Wilde once, said, we are all in the gutter but some of us are staring at the stars that summed me up! I sat up and caught a glimpse of what I thought was blood; it was running down his hands and collecting in a pool on the floor. He d cut his wrists with a piece of broken glass but not in the usual way from side to side, he'd torn open the veins down his arms exposing them length ways. I was taking about two and a half grams of coke a day for about two thirds of the week and the rest of the time was spent recovering. At the time I was getting serious liver pains and would pass blood in my urine. This was caused by the ridiculous amounts ofalcohol I'd consume when out of it on coke. I would go out and drink until I could drink no more and to enable me to see the night through, I would do line after line of coke, which would instantly sober me up and give me the ability to drink doubles and trebles without even being affected. Taking coke was so addictive. I would salivate at the mere thought of having a line. When that white powder hit the back of my nose and slid down my throat, instantly numbing it, it delivered the best rush I could ever wish to experience. It was 100% pure unadulterated ecstasy. But one line was never enough for me and I had fallen under its spell. I would take so much that my whole body would literally be shaking and I would have to stuff bog roll up my nose to stem the flow of the constant nosebleeds. My body was totally f****d. My kidneys would be aching and my p**s would be so dark it looked like treacle. I was in a terrible state and became so paranoid about dying that I'd go to sleep with my hand on my chest so I could feel my heart beating...

Living on the Cusp is an autobiography regarding a colorful life, filled with failures and missed opportunities, but with final success. I, through my life, enjoyed a multitude of various experiences starting by being raised on a large ranch and farming operation with influences from my dramatic parents and older achieving siblings providing a competitive effect while keeping me on a path towards achievements. My perceptions of life have been shaped by being born into the Great Depression, experiencing the events of World War II, being drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War, playing my saxophone professionally, being involved in the colorful entertainment industry, working as a professional photographer, and my many business ventures for good or for bad. After my many varied and colorful female relationships I found my loving mate Dorothy, which added to building my success through our thirty-eight years of challenges. My life truly has been that of living on the narrow edge, the cusp, of life while facing the challenges, trauma, and positive events leading to success at the top of my own small, but secure, peak.
Brought up in the Depression, Johnny DaSilva is leader of a fun and imaginative gang that lives out their dreams in the Big Tree in which each has a branch that serves as the Lone Ranger's Silver, the race car of Morey Amsterdam, the rocket ship of Buck Rogers, the crow's nest for Black Bart the Pirate. When World War II broke out, they tried every ruse their young imaginations could think of to get into the marines, army, and navy but had to settle for the Boy Scouts. But the faux pas war to end all wars came too soon for the Big Tree Gang. Johnny is best described by an aunt as having the millstone around the neck of having a strict English Episcopalian conscience and bucking bronco Portuguese sexual proclivities. Two girls are in love with him, one wealthy and popular, the other sexually abused and who considered herself a worthless toy, until she met Johnny. Whatever they knew about the facts of life, male and female, were learned pretty much by trial and error.
