Voegelin's magisterial account of medieval political thought opens with a survey of the structure of the period and continues with an analysis of the Germanic invasions, the fall of Rome, and the rise of empire and monastic Christianity. The political implications of Christianity and philosophy in the period are elaborated in chapters devoted to John of Salisbury, Joachim of Flora (Fiore), Frederick II, Siger de Brabant, Francis of Assisi, Roman law, and climaxing in a remarkable study of Saint Thomas Aquinas's mighty thirteenth-century synthesis. Although History of Political Ideas was begun as a textbook for Macmillan, Voegelin never intended it to be a conventional chronological account. He sought instead an original comprehensive interpretation, founded on primary materials and taking into account the most advanced specialist scholarship--or science as he called it--available to him. Because of this, the book grew well beyond the confines of an easily marketable college survey and until now remained unpublished. In the process of writing it, Voegelin himself outgrew the conceptual frame of a "History of Political Ideas," turning to compose Order and History and the other works of his maturity. History of Political Ideas became the ordered collection of materials from which much of Voegelin's later theoretical elaboration grew, structured in a manner that reveals the conceptual intimations of his later thought. As such, it provides an unparalleled opportunity to observe the working methods and the intellectual evolution of one of our century's leading political thinkers. In its embracing scope, History of Political Ideas contains both analyses of themes Voegelin developed in his later works and discussions of authors and ideas to which he did not return or which he later approached from a different angle and with a different emphasis. The Middle Ages to Aquinas has withstood the test of time. What makes it still highly valuable is its thoroughly revisionist approach, cutting through all the convenient clichs and generalizations and seeking to establish the experiential underpinnings that typified the medieval period.

After graduating in Finances in a Business School in Paris, I worked in a large company until 2015. At the end of 2014, a divine intervention reconnected me to the invisible world. Since then, I get to access my past lives and the invisible world thanks to signs and intuition. In this book, I share what I learned while discovering a wonderful and magic world, which is ours. My past lives as famous figures from our history help me understand that, if we pay attention to signs, our lives are intimately linked to others. Moreover, we live in a world perfectly arranged, we are guided by beings from the invisible world. We all have access to that. We hold treasures within us.

When Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) completed the vast opera Saint Frans dAssise in 1983, he was mentally and physically exhausted, and believed that this monumental work would be his final compositional statement. In fact, he completed seven further works, and these form the focus of the present study. Christopher Dingle suggests that, following the crisis provoked by the opera, Messiaen's music underwent a discernible change in style. He examines these seven works to identify characteristics of the composer's music, in particular an often overlooked aspect of his technique: harmony. Part I of the book begins with a brief historical survey before discussing Saint Frans dAssise as the work which defines everything that follows. Part II examines the series of miniatures that came after the opera and their links with lairs sur lAu-Del., his final masterpiece. lairs forms the subject of Part III of the book. Each movement is analysed in turn, before the work is considered as a whole and its hidden structure and motivic cohesion is revealed. Finally, Part IV considers the incomplete Concert and key stylistic features of the works of Messiaens final years.

The texts focus on three artists with widely divergent aesthetic orientations: the colorist-draftsman Valerio Adami, the conceptual metaphysician Shusaku Arakawa, and Daniel Buren, the "pragmatist of the invisible."

The studies in this book set out to examine the labile resonances of phenomenology and art in Michel Henry, by examining the different figures of movement given to the concept of the aesthetic by the philosopher. They are preceded by one of Michel Henry’s own texts.
