It is 1973, and the Los Angeles Presse-Syndicat’s thirtyish music-arts “stringer” Axel Haberley believes in the arts’ cross-fertilization. With a passion for Vincent Van Gogh, an editor willing to let him “file pieces” from abroad, and passable college French, Axel plans a cultural wanderjahr. The Van Gogh Quartet is a true story which reads like a novel. Travelling with his young love interest Daphne, and stumbling onto an unknown Van Gogh work, what “Axie” really finds is the subject on his own canvas: Himself. THE VAN GOGH QUARTET reveals a picaresque best—the treasure which is one’s own life’s meaning.

Beethoven wrote 32 sonatas for piano. Volume 1, edited by Stewart Gordon, includes the first 8 sonatas (Op. 2, Nos. 1-3; Op. 7; Op. 10, Nos. 1-3; and Op. 13 ["Pathétique"]), written between 1795 and 1799. Since these autographs no longer exist, this edition is based on the first editions, published by various Viennese engravers. Dr. Gordon discusses a variety of topics including Beethoven's life; the pianos of his time and their limitations; Beethoven's use of articulation, ornamentation, tempo; and the age-old challenge of attempting to determine the definitive interpretation of Beethoven's music. Valuable performance recommendations, helpful fingering suggestions and ornament realizations are offered in this comprehensive critical body of Beethoven's sonatas. Where performance options are open to interpretation, other editors' conclusions are noted, enabling students and teachers to make informed performance decisions.

Teach Cello with the popular Suzuki Cello School. The Suzuki Method(R) of Talent Education is based on Shinichi Suzuki's view that every child is born with ability, and that people are the product of their environment. According to Shinichi Suzuki, a world-renowned violinist and teacher, the greatest joy an adult can know comes from developing a child's potential so he/she can express all that is harmonious and best in human beings. Students are taught using the "mother-tongue" approach. Each series of books for a particular instrument in the Suzuki Method is considered a Suzuki music school, such as the Suzuki Cello School. Suzuki lessons are generally given in a private studio setting with additional group lessons. The student listens to the recordings and works with their Suzuki cello teacher to develop their potential as a musician and as a person. This Suzuki Book is integral for Suzuki cello lessons. Prepared and edited by Rick Mooney, a well-known Suzuki teacher, teacher-trainer, and member of the Suzuki Cello Committee, these books contain harmony parts to go with many of the pieces in the Suzuki Cello School, Volumes 1, 2, 3, and 4. All of these pieces have been arranged to resemble, as much as possible, the existing piano accompaniments. These ensembles enable a cello teacher (who does not play or have access to a piano) to play harmony parts with students to prepare them for the time when a piano and pianist are available. These parts also provide additional challenges for the more advanced player during a group lesson. Volume 1 contents are: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star Theme and Variations (Shinichi Suzuki) * French Folk Song (Folk Song) * Song of the Wind (Folk Song) * Go Tell Aunt Rhody (Folk Song) * O Come, Little Children (Folk Song) * May Song (Folk Song) * Allegro (Shinichi Suzuki) * Perpetual Motion (Shinichi Suzuki) * Long, Long Ago (T.H. Bayly) * Andantino (F.J. Gossec) * Rigadoon (H. Purcell) * Etude (Shinichi Suzuki) * Minuet in C, No. 11 in G Major from Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach (J.S. Bach) * Maytime (cello duet), Komm Lieber Mai from Sehnsucht nach dem Fr?hlinge, K. 596 (W.A. Mozart) * Maytime (cello quartet) (W.A. Mozart) * Minuet No. 2 from Minuet in G Major, BWV 116 (J.S.
