Practical Ayurveda shows how Ayurveda, the traditional natural healing system of India, can correct ordinary ailments with changes in diet and exercise. Atreya writes with humor and compassion, and uses everyday language to explain why Ayurveda (with an emphasis on Prana) is the best overall method to promote health and long life. He clarifies the spiritual principles behind Ayurveda, and provides a broader and more flexible perspective on this ancient healing system than is usually given. He discusses the advantages of using a constitutional system of medicine whereby you are diagnosed and treated as an individual instead of being considered just an ailing patient. A constitutional test is included for determining your own ayurvedic humors. Atreya also gives a straightforward approach to the health benefits of good sexual relationships. Some ayurvedic teachers promote abstinence; however, Atreya shows that our mental attitude towards sex is more important than abstinence. He presents important insights for, both women and men, so that we can, regardless of our sexual orientation, maintain a healthy balance. This is an excellent reference guide that includes special diets and cures for dozens of ailments.

Does the art of medicine matter? Does it really help us become better doctors and improve results? Dr. Claudia Welch explores how the effectiveness of a physician extends far beyond the ability to prescribe correct treatments, and how mastering the art of doctoring can make the medicine more effective. Drawing on Eastern medical traditions and experience as well as on Western science, Dr. Welch examines how we know what we know, the mechanics of doctor-patient emotional contagion, and the degree to which a patient's sensory experience in a medical office affects their experience of treatments delivered. Dr. Welch also offers practical steps that doctors can take to cultivate more refined perceptive abilities and improve results. Dr. Welch's book will be essential reading for all health care practitioners interested in understanding the art of their practice and how it can enhance therapeutic outcomes, including doctors of Ayurveda, Chinese medicine, Naturopathy, as well as western medical professionals and other complementary health practitioners.

Ayurveda, the science of life, holistic medicine offers a complete solution with medicines, diet and lifestyle. The radical shift occurred in defining health encourages the medical fraternity of modern times to look deeply into empirically evolved ayurvedic techniques for the maintenance of positive health. The recent WHO report says that 70% of the world population is using herbal medicines for their primary health care. In last decade the use of herbal medicines increased tremendously. Safe and effective prescribing is a basis of proper patient care. Many pocket books or practical prescriber available for allopathic medicine in market but very few for Ayurveda. In order to fulfill this we have undertaken this task. In order to diagnose the disease on the basis of Ayurvedic principles, the physician should have to work very hard to know the subtle changes occurring inside the body due to the imbalance of Dosha. To become perfect in Ayurvedic diagnosis, the physician needs to understand Dosha Vikalpa (Dravyataha-Gunataha-Karmataha Vriddhi of Dosha), Dhatu Vaishamya (the quantum of vitiation, the status of Dhatu & Srotas), Agni Sthiti and nature of Ama. It is essential to get the practical training from the Guru (Teacher) in order to become perfect in Ayurvedic diagnosis, as evidenced from the Vagbhata’s citation “The proficiency comes by continuous practice just like the the genuineness of diamond etc. can’t be known by mere reading of books”. The fundamental principles for treating any disease are Bio-purification, Palliative medicine and avoiding the causative factors. Considering this, the author tried to incorporate these triad principles of treatment. For every diseases, there is explanation regarding causes, symptoms, diagnosis, prognosis, line of treatment, Panchakarma treatment, Palliative treatment, formulations, Prescriptions, Pathyaapathya. I hope the Vaidyas will become efficient by practicing the remedies, regime and diet described in this book.
