The Wedding Confessions of a Very Married Man

Marriage, love and sex are topics that garner a lot of attention from various writers, and rightly so, as these topics are juicy enough to satisfy any appetite for a good read. Weddings, invariably a tangible manifestation of Marriage, Love and Sex, are just as interesting. These events are a beast in and unto themselves and can provide enough drama to fill all the national libraries of the world. So although this book does touch on issues pertaining to sex, love and marriage, they are all tied to the wedding context. Therefore, the issues that happen before the wedding, during the wedding and unusual tips on how to preserve relationships are all dovetailed to produce these wedding confessions. This book will instigate discussions and arguments in book clubs, amongst the girls and amongst the guys, but don't take it too seriously; unless of course you want to.The writer speaks directly to the women, but, it's a book applicable to both genders especially if navigating a relationship or getting married and provides a bit of empowerment. It is a candid, funny, irreverent but very honest look at the wedding process and some of the situations that affect and influence this supposedly wonderful affair. If you're already married some of these stories will look ridiculously familiar while if you're about to get married, you'll pray that it's a complete work of outlandishly contrived fiction.

Achieving compatibility with the opposite sex can be an intricate process. While navigating our way through intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual compatibilities, we must also find a way to value our self-worth to our mate. Unfortunately, we often only see things from our own experiences and perspectives. In a raw, unapologetic, and energetic presentation, Wayne Dean provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse into “him and her” thoughts and actions. While mostly focusing on “her” from his perspective, he also highlights the male viewpoint by creating settings that address the various issues one might encounter in a relationship while balancing its faults and merits. Dean’s enlightening, thought-provoking, and often humorous essays vividly explore the rollercoaster epics either played out in public or behind closed doors in a relationship, the mystery of what a woman really wants and needs from a man, the woman with a scarred heart who detests men, why an interracial relationship can be challenging for both sexes, and much more. Untold Stories, Him and Her shares a brazen peek into the nuances of male and female relationships while highlighting the negatives and positives of not only our actions, but also our deepest thoughts.

A Colourful Presence

This book analyzes the changes in the representation of women in Iranian cinema since the 1960s, and investigates the reasons and motives for this. Iranian cinema, both before and after the Islamic Revolution, has been closely monitored by the ruling power, and has been utilized to relay messages and information that comply with the ruling ideology. However, it was only after the 1979 Revolution and the subsequent legitimization of cinema by the Islamic rule that cinema became widely accessible to the general public. Within this context, this book explores the changing roles of women in film production and their representation in films made between the 1960s and 2000s. Although some aspects of women’s lives became stricter after the revolution, it was in the late 1980s that women took a prominent role both behind and in front of the camera for the first time. It is demonstrated here that such shifts were due to several factors, including factionalism within the Islamic Republic, shifts in the Iranian film industry, and the emergence of a group of highly educated film production teams, in addition to the fuller integration of women into the film industry, which is analyzed in particular detail. This study explores a number of representative female-centric films, with a focus on their cultural, social and cinematic contexts. Discussing these films with respect to the representation of women, it uses textual analysis as its base methodology. Interviews conducted with filmmakers and people active in the industry also serve to place the films into their historical, social, and political context.

Daughters of the Canton Delta

This book describes an extraordinary traditional marriage system, 'delayed transfer marriage', that is virtually unknown in the ethnographic literature on Chinese Society, though it was widely established in the Canton Delta. In striking contrast to the orthodox Confucian form of marriage, brides in delayed transfer marriages were required to separate from their husband shortly after marriage and return to live with their parents for at least three more years. During this customary period of separation, brides were expected to visit their husband on several festival occasions each year. Idelly, brides became pregnant about three years after marriage and then settled in the husband's home. The area in which delayed transfer marriage was the customary and dominant form of marriage encompassed the rich silk-producing district of the Canton Delta as well as adjacent rice-producing areas. The book analyzes the effect of economic change on the practice of delayed transfer marriage in the silk district.
