Why Become a Member of the School of Spiritual Science

Sergei O. Prokofieff developed this booklet from talks to members of the Anthroposophical Society. They became opportunities for many to question potential membership of the First Class in a more conscious way, and for some to take the decisive step of entering the Michael School. "This experience gave rise to the occasion for printing this lecture separately for interested individuals, as a stimulus to consider their relationship to the Michael School on Earth against the background of the karma that guides human beings in their present incarnation to anthroposophy. In this sense, the present text may well be an aid for some interested individuals to grasp to its full extent the unique significance of the establishment of the Esoteric School--carried out as it was by Rudolf Steiner based on the Michael Spirit--so as to gain the courage and will to become a member out of full inner conviction" (from the preface).

The Spirit of the School

Recent interest in personalized learning and the issues raised by Every Child Matters have led to renewed enthusiasm for the more personal and holistic aspects of schooling. This fascinating monograph draws on empirical evidence from schools across the world to answer key questions such as: - What is the spirit of the school? - How does it differ from school ethos? - What can teachers and pupils do to contribute to the spirit of the school? Drawing heavily on research into learning theories (from the social constructivist tradition), community (from the philosophy of John Macmurray) and dialogue (from the philosophy of Martin Buber), Julian Stern's unique and illuminating book will stimulate fresh thinking about spiritual education.

Education in Search of the Spirit

The premise of this book is that a human being is a being of body, soul, and spirit, whose core is "eternal spirit," from which center one should strive to live.

Education in Search of the Spirit

Real education will always seek to strengthen what is best in the human soul: its longing for the experience of spiritual truth that brings into the self an objective appreciation of the noble aspects of its own nature, together with a subjective sense of real affinity with the rest of humanity, the earth planet as a whole, and the great cosmos above and beyond. The premise of this book is that a human being is a being of body, soul, and spirit, whose core is "eternal spirit," from which center one should strive to live. From this perspective, the aim of true education is to help our children activate this deepest center in themselves. For this, living, intuitive thinking must be brought to life in a new way. The organ for such thinking is the heart, where will and feeling join in uniting self and world, morality and truth, love and action. This book is in three parts. The first poses the problem; the second describes the Waldorf approach as a solution; and the third deals with questions of special interest to parents and educators alike, such as authority, discipline, and freedom; the nature of "genius"; and the question of cultural pluralism. The first edition of this book was titled "The Experience of Knowledge" in response to a clear call for experience in education. Certainly, if the sole purpose of education is to acquire information, learning becomes dry, abstract, and deadening. To have meaningful consequence in a person's life, "coming to know" must become an experience. Too often, however, such experience is understood simply as doing -- field trips, class projects, and so on. But "doing," if unconnected to the whole person, is just activity. To become true experience, it must speak out of, and toward, a student's secret center: the spirit. Hence, the author affirms that authentic education is always in search of the spirit.

This devotional explores many of the defining characteristics of the Holy Spirit. Each day stokes the believer's internal desire to hunger and thirst after the Spirit of God. Encounter Tozer’s heart and wisdom like never before in this newly revised edition. Continue worshiping alongside Tozer with the rest of his Trinitarian devotions: Tozer on the Son of God and Tozer on the Almighty God. With each page, may your heart be filled and your worship increased.

Oxford Encyclopedia of the Bible and Gender Studies

As the first major encyclopedia of its kind, The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Bible and Gender Studies (OEBGS) is the go-to source for scholars and students undertaking original research in the field. Extending the work of nineteenth and twentieth century feminist scholarship and more recent queer studies, the Encyclopedia seeks to advance the scholarly conversation by systematically exploring the ways in which gender is constructed in the diverse texts, cultures, and readers that constitute "the world of the Bible." With contributions from leading scholars in gender and biblical studies as well as contemporary gender theorists, classicists, archaeologists, and ancient historians, this comprehensive reference work reflects the diverse and interdisciplinary nature of the field and traces both historical and modern conceptions of gender and sexuality in the Bible. The two-volume Encyclopedia contains more than 160 entries ranging in length from 1,000 to 10,000 words. Each entry includes bibliographic references and suggestions for further reading, as well as a topical outline and index to aid in research. The OEBGS builds upon the pioneering work of biblically focused gender theorists to help guide and encourage further gendered discussions of the Bible.

Divine Accommodation in John Calvin s Theology

Dorner, H.M. Kuitert und K. Barth. Der Autor konkludiert dass den Akkommodationsbegriff in vielen Punkten kritisiert werden muss, aber dass besonders der pädagogische Aspekt fruchtbar gemacht werden kann für die heutige Theologie.

The History and Life of the Reverend Doctor John Tauler with Twenty Five of his Sermons

IN the year of Our Lord 1340, it came to pass, that a Master in Holy Scripture preached oft-times in a certain city, and the people loved to hear him, and his teachings were the talk of the country for many leagues round. Now this came to the ears of a layman who was rich in God’s grace, and he was warned three times in his sleep that he should go to the city where the Master dwelt, and hear him preach. Now that city was in another country, more than thirty leagues distant. Then the man thought within himself, “I will go thither and wait to see what God is purposed to do or bring to pass there.” So he came to that city and heard the Master preach five times.

The Spirit Of Wisdom Revelation And Power

The Holy Spirit IS God, together with the Father and the Son. And He is here on earth—moving in and through the people of God. He expresses Himself in many different ways and works in and through the people of God, enabling them to accomplish many different things. In this book, our purpose is to acquaint you with this aspect of the work of the Spirit of God. The Spirit of God desires to work in and through each believer, to help each one of us become all that God intends and accomplish all that He has planned. However, He can and will work only to the degree that we allow Him to. Our encouragement to you is that you will desire and allow the Spirit of God to be the Spirit of power in and through you.
