‘A compelling history of workhouse children in the industrial revolution.' The Guardian ‘A compelling 'whatdunnit'’ The Times ‘Waller’s book should interest both historians and scientists, while the general reader will enjoy his colourful depictions of medieval life.’ BBC Focus Magazine This is the true story of a wild dancing epidemic that brought death and fear to a 16th-century city, and the terrifying supernatural beliefs from which it arose. In July 1518 a terrifying and mysterious plague struck the medieval city of Strasbourg. Hundreds of men and women danced wildly, day after day, in the punishing summer heat. They did not want to dance, but could not stop. Throughout August and early September more and more were seized by the same terrible compulsion. By the time the epidemic subsided, heat and exhaustion had claimed an unfold number of lives, leaving thousands bewildered and bereaved, and an enduring enigma for future generations. Drawing on fresh evidence, John Waller's account of the bizarre events of 1518 explains why Strasbourg's dancing plague took place. In doing so it leads us into a largely vanished world, evoking the sights, sounds, aromas, diseases and hardships, the fervent supernaturalism, and the desperate hedonism of the late medieval world. At the same time, the extraordinary story this book tells offers rich insights into how people behave when driven beyond the limits of endurance. Above all, A Time to Dance, a Time to Die: The Extraordinary Story of the Dancing Plague of 1518 is an exploration into the strangest capabilities of the human mind and the extremes to which fear and irrationality can lead us.

This Book is dedicated to every Child of God, whose desire is to know God in a greater light. Those seeking to develop an intimate relationship with God and to those whose goal is perfecting their walk with God in victory. Finally, those of us needing the knowledge to know who we are as the Church of God, the Body of Christ. My prayer is that God reveals to everyone who read this book, what He has revealed to me, through the study, mediation and research in His Word while preparing this book, in Jesus Name. This book should help you become a well trained and effective Christian Warrior in Christ. You should develop a knowledge of your enemy, his mission and objectives. You will be able to learn, what is needed to loose, dissolve, and undo the works of the enemy. Paul talking to the Roman Church makes an intense statement. "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us," Romans' 8:37. In saying this, Paul mentions two important items: 1. "We are more than conquerors," we need not fight the battles Jesus fought and won for humanity. But, we receive the spoils. Col. 2:15 Read, "And having spoiled principalities and powers, he (Jesus) made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. I like the way the Amplified Bible says it, [God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross]. 2. "Through Him that loved us," God wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places. Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come. By putting all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to us, His Church. Which is his body, the fulness of him that fills all in all, Ephesians 1:20-23. In our zeal, we quickly run to do battle before we are properly trained and equipped. Paul referring to Israel states, "For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge" Romans 10:2. Paul's testimony bore witness about Israel's zealousness for God. (Israel was called "the God-intoxicated people.") Paul had to recognize, however, that their zeal is not based on (lit., "according to") knowledge "intensive, full knowledge." The Jews obviously had knowledge of God but not full knowledge. Otherwise, they would not have stumbled over Christ by seeking to gain their own righteousness based on works. It is the same way with us. This book will help you in doing your works of God or for God. You will gain full understanding and interpretation of the scriptures to avoid defeat by the devil. It helps by revealing our ignorance or like of knowledge on Spiritual Warfare. It will help you know, what the Spirit of God is revealing to the Church in these latter days (see John 16:13-14). The keys are commitment, relationship, and understanding in Christ Jesus. Jesus' disclosure of the vine in John 15 revealed, "

In her new book, A Time to Dance, Margaret Fisk Taylor recreates the exciting religious response her country-wide "symbolic movement" workshops have engendered in children, young people, and adults.First of all, A Time to Dance is a "how to" book. It tells, graphically and step-by-step, how to be a leader of a dance choir, how many members there should be, what kind of robes to wear, and, trickiest of all, how to get men and boys to join the group. There are descriptions of dance dramas, processions, narrative outlines and special programs for religious holidays.A fascinating section on the history of religious dance begins with the biblical "David danced before the Lord with all his might," and continues through the early Christian church and the medieval miracle and mystery plays.A third section brings to life the renaissance of dance movement in twentieth century religious worship.

In August of 1983, Mark Laughlin, a young graduate student, was involved in a seemingly minor bicycling accident. Thirty-three hours later, he was lying in bed, his body stiff from convulsions and blood gushing from his mouth. It’s seldom that we are allowed to watch a crisis unfold in which the key players let God be God. Many people believe that God is in control and can do what he pleases, that is, until we are gripped by an overwhelming experience. When a trauma of this magnitude strikes, we often question and criticize God. In Laughlin’s story, A Time to Dance, we see how belief in God’s sovereignty affects the individual, the family, the pastor, and the church. We see faith stretched to its breaking point but never lost or broken. In spite of the hopelessness of Mark’s situation, the Laughlin family clings to their faith – a faith also willing to release a beloved son and brother, if that is indeed part of God’s plan. A Time to Dance is a powerful illustration of the unwavering devotion displayed by the Laughlins. It takes you behind the scenes of a tragedy and allows you to share in the miraculous experiences of a family that trusted God.
