Finding Balance

“Finding Balance: 101 Concepts For Taking Better Care of Self” was written for people in the Helping Professions and for those persons who need permission to take better care of themselves. Most of the concepts, insights, and stories in the book are the result of the creative interaction between my clients and myself. Time in therapy has often been reduced by an on-target teaching concept, such as those that fill the pages of this book. These concepts help ‘cut to the chase’ inviting understanding and insight with a minimum of verbiage. “Finding Balance: 101 Concepts For Taking Better Care of Self” includes 186 pages of stories, insights and concepts. This is a very personal book in that you will see yourself in many of my stories and concepts. People purchase this book for the following reasons: -To better understand the stressors in their lives, their driven behaviour, and how best to be ‘in charge’ of their lives, -To discover more about themselves and in particular, why they don’t take better care of themselves, -To alter their perspective so they can see ‘change’ as a positive thing instead of something to be avoided, and -To achieve their objectives and become healthier, happier, and in balance.

In the Balance

This is volume one of a two-volume world history text. The book takes a thematic approach, exploring different civilizations in a comparative manner and central themes are used to highlight the interconnectedness of the world's development across cultures and time. The approach is roughly chronological, though the organization deals with broader comparative issues such as the family. The text explores how different parts of the world often follow similar paths, even at different times and how similarities or differences in development can be revealing about particular societies, for example a chapter on gods, goddesses and god kings in Asia, Africa and the Americas. The book places less emphasis on political history and more on social, economic and cultural, with coverage of gender and family. The section openers have comparative chronological charts to help keep the student oriented with respect to events in different parts of the world and learning aids include debating the past boxes, daily life boxes, two four-colour photo-essays and marginal heads to help keep track of the testable material.

Weighed in the Balance

When Countess Zorah Rostova asks London barrister Sir Oliver Rathbone to defend her against a charge of slander, he is astonished to find himself accepting. For without a shred of evidence, the countess has publicly insisted that the onetime ruler of her small German principality was murdered by his wife, the woman who was responsible for the prince’s exile to Venice twenty years before. Private investigator William Monk and his friend Hester Latterly journey to the City of Water in an attempt verify the countess’s claims, and though the two manage to establish that the prince was indeed murdered, as events unfold the likeliest suspect seems to be Countess Zorah herself.
