Roman Wolfe 3 the Problem of Evil

She also didn't care for the “Wolf” moniker because of its reminder and its implications to Roman's Vietnam ... Your welcome to come to our humble commode.” Sam heard Hawkey laugh when she referred to their abode as a commode.

Roman Wolfe 3 the Problem of Evil

What kind of maniacal deviant preys on young teenage girls and viciously terrorizes a small town in upstate New York? Roman Wolfe, a.k.a. Wolfman, is a Vietnam combat veteran who had specialized in the stealthy, nighttime-stalking and killing of the enemy. After the war Roman gets a college education and becomes an elementary school teacher who is still haunted by his violent war experiences on the killing fields and in the jungles of Vietnam. Roman feels the need to end his teaching career when his schools community is informed about his specialized actions in Vietnam and many parents react negatively. When most parents no longer want their children placed in Romans classroom, he resigns his teaching position and becomes a Private Investigator who prefers to handle cases involving children. Shortly after becoming a PI, his two high-ranking state trooper friends ask him for help as a consultant in solving a serial murders case involving the killing of female children. Now Wolfman must emerge again to hunt a sadistic, but intelligent killer.

Ugly As Sin

Welcome to my humble commode, Mr. Bullman. I know it don't look like much, but it's home.” † The trailer's foundation creaked and groaned beneath them like some slowly-dying beast. Nick prayed it would hold his weight.

Ugly As Sin

Nick Bullman was a wrestling superstar. His alter ego, The Widowmaker, was the monster heel all the marks loved to hate. Now, after a brutal encounter with two psychotic fans left his face horribly disfigured, he’s just a monster. Yanked from the spotlight and thrust into the shadows, these days Nick tries to live the life of an average Joe. He avoids mirrors. He's angry. He’s alone. And he likes it just fine that way... Until he receives a desperate phone call from a young lady he barely knows—his daughter. For the first time in over thirty years, Nick returns to his hometown of Midnight, North Carolina. There he will come face to face with old demons, forge new friendships, and make enemies far more dangerous than those who ruined his face, all in a quest to save the granddaughter he’s never met...and maybe find a little bit of redemption along the way. Ugly As Sin is an electrifying tale of “white-trash noir,” a taut page-turner that skates the razor edge of a familiar, horrifying reality. At times heartbreaking, funny, and terrifyingly suspenseful, Ugly As Sin is Newman’s best work to date.

Shattered Sky

In this conclusion to The Star Shards Chronicles, powerful and terrifying invaders have arrived from a parallel dimension, and only the Star Shards can prevent the destruction of the human race. Six children were conceived at the exact moment that the star Mentaras-H went supernova, and the explosion transformed their souls into living star fragments. Now the Star Shards face the ultimate battle—and the true purpose of their gifts be revealed, for it is no accident they have these powers. Once despised for their “deformities,” the Star Shards are now worshiped and feared as gods. Their power is unlimited, as is the temptation to abuse it. But a new and terrifying force has torn a wound in the universe, infecting it like a deadly, intelligent virus. Only one power exists that could conceivably prevent the extermination of the human race: the Star Shards. But only if they can put aside their titanic egos and join forces one final time. Acclaimed author Neal Shusterman’s “talent for depicting superhuman characters with human strengths and weaknesses lends depth and immediacy to a tale of cosmic proportions” (School Library Journal) in this stunning conclusion to a visionary trilogy. Money Wanders

Jonah Eastman, disgraced Presidential pollster, is summoned home to Atlantic City by his ailing grandfather Mickey Price--a legendary Atlantic City gangster and owner of the Golden Prospect casino. When Mickey dies, Jonah is "persuaded" by mob boss Mario Vanni to help improve his image by launching a misinformation campaign aimed at gaining public acceptance and ultimately a way "outta the life." So Jonah goes to war through a comical and audacious manipulation of the media which includes online rumoring, exploiting romantic myths of the mob, and orchestrating a union-backed pseudo-vigil after Vanni is arrested. To pull off these stunts, he enlists the help of his grandfather's Prohibition-era cronies, pimply-faced hackers, a disgruntled Secret Service agent, a cagey Washington lobbyist, a slick Philadelphia publicist, and a street-fighting rabbi. Money Wanders is a wild and uproarious tour of spin and media manipulation from the lobbied halls of Congress to the dilapidated boardwalk of Atlantic City.

Bittersweet

Jonnie Mae Perkins is a woman tormented. She married a younger man who cheated on her so extensively he met his end in a hotel room while cavorting with more than one young beauty. Alzheimer's leaves her in a chronic state of confusion. Her caregiver, a patient woman with her best interests at heart, dies in an auto accident. Her new caregiver, a woman with her eye on the widow's money, gets her drug-dealing associates to act out hallucinogenic midnight plays in Jonnie Mae's home. The housing authority is putting her house up for auction due to unpaid back taxes, and a developer wants to force her out to make way for the Mall of the Future. Poor Jonnie Mae. Her twilight years have turned into her nightmare years. The funeral for her husband is firebombed, the mortician's car is wrecked by her neighbor, a yard sale intended to raise money for the house allows a winning lottery ticket to fall into the hands of a local hustler, and her new caretaker rigs the yard with bear traps and studded boards to keep the housing authority at bay. When the widow seeks solace at her husband's grave, the groundskeeper tells her his headstone has been repossessed and the gravesite cannot be found. Things come to a head when her house is auctioned. The workers who arrive to evict her are taken out by the booby traps on the lawn. The greedy caretaker breaks out of jail after being arrested on drug trafficking charges and holes up at the widow's home. She then takes Jonnie Mae hostage at gunpoint and uses her as a human shield. In another classic moment of stubbornness, the widow accidentally disarms her captor and avoids the hail of bullets from the squadron of police surrounding the house then discovers that the buyer of the house has reneged on the deal. A Baptist ministry has paid off her taxes so the house is again her own. She survives it all with as much aplomb as an incontinent senior can be expected to muster.

The Life and Death of Mahatma Gandhi

Do you think that you will go out to attend to nature's needs and at the same time keep a commode for me? I will bear any amount of hardship, but I will humble your pride!” Gandhi was not accustomed to receiving tongue-lashings, ...

The Life and Death of Mahatma Gandhi

This is the heroic story of the man whose non-violent movement transformed his native India both spiritually and politically as it impelled the nation along the road to independence. With consummate skill, in a narration that never flags in vividness and drama, Robert Payne re-creates Mahatma Gandhi both as a spiritual and historical force and as a living personality. When in January, l948, Gandhi was assassinated in Delhi by a fanatic, his death sent shock waves around the world. For two generations he had been the conscience of his country and the world. Planting the idea of non-violence firmly in men’s minds, he had not only conquered India but also changed the landscape of the human heart. In the tradition of his best-selling biographies of Lenin and Schweitzer, Robert Payne’s life brings Gandhi alive as a rounded personality. Beginning with the moving story of a shy, awkward boy from a provincial Indian city who married at Thirteen, then was separated from his bride for years while he read law in London, the book describes Gandhi’s life as a successful barrister in South Africa who turned his back on wealth to defend Indian settlers against discrimination and persecution. Robert Payne superbly describes Gandhi’s daring marches to aid the oppressed; his fasts and imprisonments; his historic achievements at international congresses and conferences in India and England where, clad only in shawl and loincloth, he met with prime ministers and viceroys and won their respect as he fought for the dignity and freedom of his people. “I would place Robert Payne’s book on the level of a great novel by Tolstoy, swiftly moving, panoramic, writ on the canvas of destiny and of close historical characterization,” writes Dr. Amiya Chakravarty, former private secretary of Rabindranath Tagore, who knew Gandhi personally and worked with him. “It is one of the great biographies. No finer account of Gandhi’s life and death has been written.”
