Henry L. Woodward is a devoted Sailer and a US Navy veteran who served as a Combat Medical Corpsman in Vietnam. At the end of his service, he took his discharge in Hawaii and stayed in Honolulu and began a new life. Within less than two years, he graduated as a paramedic from the State of Hawaii Paramedic School and worked “on the road” on all the islands for over a year. This experience ended when he was asked to and accepted the position of ambulance services inspection officer for the State of Hawaii, Department of Health, Emergency Medical Services System Division. In that capacity, he was responsible for inspecting all ambulances on the seven islands of the state which had ambulances and enforcing compliance with the state ambulance service regulations. Because of his successes in regulation enforcement, he was then offered and again accepted the position of program officer for all Emergency Medical Services for the entire state of Hawaii. In this capacity, he was responsible for all 911 ambulances and ambulance services, all the paramedics and all the EMTs for the state. Within two years of becoming a paramedic, he had advanced from being a paramedic to running the whole program for Emergency Medical Services for the entire state of Hawaii. Following these two successes, he left the Department of Health and became an international paramedic, traveling to forty-five countries by working wherever he went to earn money for the next stop. During this time, from 1976 through 1994, he maintained a journal completing nineteen handwritten volumes. It is from these incredible experiences that the beginning inspirations for Life’s Unknown Poems were first realized. He ultimately returned to his hometown of Vancouver, Washington, where he worked his final year as a paramedic. The next challenge was to finish his bachelor’s degree at Washington State University for which he paid by learning the art of “Yard Sailing” from a lifelong friend named Mr. Dan Kelly. It is from his three years of doing Yard and Swap Meet sales in order to pay for his school fees that this book, Yare Sale Today, has its origins. After completing his bachelor’s degree and the writing of Yard Sale Today, Mr. Woodward continued to write and has just completed his second book, Life’s Unknown Poems. This book was inspired by his travels through forty-five countries as mentioned above and will be out of editing and available for sales in the Spring of 2021. His third book, Code Three—Life of a Paramedic, is now being written. It is a collection of the ambulance calls which continued to haunt Mr. Woodward since they were first experienced during his years as a paramedic. All the deaths, all the tragedies are written as they happened, and as Mr. Woodward told me, “It was time to get rid of them. I didn’t want to continue remembering them all and go on to die so sad. I had to do something, so I wrote them out to get them out.” For now, Mr. Woodward hopes you enjoy Yard Sale Today in either the print or online versions.

In this cozy mystery by the author of Tagged for Death, this little town’s garage sale is full of hot deals and cold-blooded murder. When Sarah Winston turns Ellington, Massachusetts, into New England’s largest garage sale for a day, it’s the small town’s biggest event since the start of the Revolutionary War—but without the bloodshed. That is, until a valuable painting goes missing . . . and the lifeless body of an Air Force officer is found in Carol Carson’s painting studio, his face perfectly framed with the murder weapon—a metal picture frame. Sarah is mad as heck that someone used her town-wide garage sale to commit a crime—and frame her good friend Carol. She is definitely on this case . . . but it’s not easy rummaging through increasingly strange clues that point to cheating spouses, downright dirty investment schemes—even the mob. And Sarah will have to be very careful if she wants to live to bargain another day . . . In this hilarious and heartfelt memoir, Haley McGee sets out to calculate—with mathematical precision—the exact cost of love, and whether all of her former relationships were worth it. Haley McGee is in debt. The solution? A yard sale of gifts from her ex-boyfriends. But when it comes to pricing, she gets stuck. Surely the ways we invest in our romantic relationships should be reflected in the price. But how? Is the mixtape from your first love worth more than the vintage typewriter from a philanderer? Does sitting on an X-Acto knife wedged between seats on a bus to see the boyfriend you lost your virginity to increase or decrease the value of the necklace he gave you? Should you be compensated for the miserable times or do they render an item worthless? Haley decides to gamble on a larger payout. She interviews her exes and enlists the help of a mathematician to create a formula—with eighty-six variables—for the cost of love. As she's searching for answers, the one that got away reappears with a new proposition. Female desire, heartbreak and the chance for integrity in the aftermath of both are held up in this whipsmart, original and daringly candid memoir. As Haley McGee interrogates her romantic triumphs and failures with unflinching detail and hilarity, her exquisite prose elevates this all too human conundrum: Is love worth it?

Escaping Eden brings together feminist biblical scholars to explore how aspects of social location such as gender, ethnicity, class, and religious background affect biblical interpretation. The volume combines feminist reading strategies with sustained methodological inquiry. Writing in a range of modes including historical and literary criticism, cultural studies, satirical fiction, and the personal essay, the contributors challenge the presumed objectivity of conventional biblical scholarship. Interrogating biblical authority, que(e)rying Jeremiah, exploring translation as a feminist act, and reclaiming texts as diverse as Genesis, Luke, and Philippians, Escaping Eden expands the usual boundaries of biblical academic discourse.

Churches are facing a crisis of epidemic proportions: attendance is dropping, empty pews are not being refilled, and doors are closing! Unfortunately, the leadership in today's churches are not trained, nor equipped, to handle this crisis. Leaders at all levels must know how to be an effective leader and communicate in a 360-degree radius effectively with each person they are in contact with. Knowing and understanding what the objectives of the church are is of paramount importance. Planning for church growth is more than a simple prayer. Church growth starts with prayers, visions of where God wants the church to go, and an evaluation and analysis of where the church is. Unfortunately, not every church is prepared for growth and must take the necessary steps to be prepared for growth. Love sells itself, and love must be shown to all those who not only enter the church's doors, but throughout the community. Love is not shown by being the loud carnival barker who is selling chances to win a stuffed animal, but by actions. Love is a warm smile, a heartfelt welcome, a firm handshake or hug, a short sweet introduction, a sincere inquiry about the person, and most importantly, love is listening. Love does not sell anything, especially denominationalism. The life cycle of the church must be understood, and leadership must know where the church is in the life cycle. In order to extend the church's life cycle, new ideas and services must be continuously developed and initiated in order to stay relevant. This relevancy leads to a strong brand for the church. This book was developed with interviews and conversations with pastors and clergy from all walks of faith and from all areas of the United States. Regardless of the denomination, this book is designed to guide church leaders through the necessary steps in order to grow and market your church.

As pastor of a small country church, husband to the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage, father to three, grandfather to nine, and great-grandfather to one, I take great delight in finding the funny side of any situation. My wife doesn’t always delight in my sense of humor, however. (I think she doesn’t understand it, but I won’t say that aloud.) Then again, we have enjoyed more than forty-five years of wedded bliss, so she has obviously found a way to abide my idea of comedy. “For a long time I was under the impression that my wife was giving me compliments. It takes a husband a long time to understand his wife, and by the time he understands her, she has morphed into the next level of womanhood. The man who thinks he knows his wife needs a psychiatrist, preferably a woman psychiatrist.”
